Complete control over our lives is not only impossible but will also lead us to unnecessary suffering and pain inflicted on ourselves and subsequently on others around us; controlling as much as we possibly can control and letting go of the rest is a recipe for a healthy enjoyable life.
Beautifully illustrated in the words of master Oogway talking to master Shifu who suffered from the illusion of control:
"Master Oogway: The Panda will never fulfill his destiny nor you yours until you let go of the illusion of control.
Master Shifu: Illusion?
Master Ooogway: Yes! Look at this tree Shifu. I cannot make it blossom when it suits me, nor make it bear fruit before its time.
Master Shifu: But there are things we can control. I can control when the fruit will fall. I can control where to plant the seed. That is no illusion master!
Master Oogway: Ah yes, but no matter what you do, that seed will grow to be a peach tree. You may wish for an apple or an orange, but you will get peach.
Master Shifu: But a peach cannot defeat Thai Lang!
Master Oogway: Maybe it can, if you are willing to guide it, to nurture it, to believe in it!"
We are not here to control, we are here to live! And so, "I release the need to control my life".
