Design Tip | Pendants Lights

Pendants are not usually task lights, but not purely decorative either. They combine creating general light in a space as well as contributing to the overall look.

My general advice when considering pendants is relating to matters of style, height, and size.

TIP#1 >>> STYLE: Obviously any pendant should match the style we're doing except in some eclectic designs. chandeliers are usually used with classic or classic contemporary settings or even some fusion designs, whereas we can use more modern pendants in other type of settings.

TIP#2 >>> HEIGHT: Pendants should be hung! That means they can't be too close to the ceiling, nor too low naturally. Height, however, should work well with the ceiling height, so in standard ceilings between 3m to 3.3m it shouldn't be lower than 2.5m. Exceptions to that rule are pendant in corners for a decorative effect, or at staircases, or above the dining table which can be a little lower.

TIP#3 >>> SIZE: Very important! A pendant too small within the space will look cheap no matter how pretty, and one that is too big might create a problem. Few exceptions in certain spaces, specially with high ceilings, using an oversized pendant can have an artistic statement, and it's better to leave that to the trained eye of a designer.
